Copywriting - The True Power of Persuasion
Copywriting is one of the most profitable industries for writers. Anybody who has ever written their own copy and tried to sell something without a substantial amount of testing likely understands why also. It takes a lot of persuasion to get in touch with peoples feelings, their minds and their emotions and get them to part with their hard-earned cash.
This is not just about telling someone why they need to buy something or about how great it is. Successful writers have to get in touch with the person on a truly emotional level no matter what emotion or range of emotions may be involved. Each and every product requires a different tact and a different strategy. Each and every demographic also involved subtle differences that are indistinguishable when the copy is well-written.
It is easy to critique what people may consider poor copy but quite often they are looking at it from a personal perspective and not that of a potential customer. Each and every individual is going to have different desires and different needs. A good writer must be able to reach out to all of those different people on a very personal level. This is not something that is easily accomplished by many people at all.
So how can somebody break into this highly competitive field and become successful if they do not know what they are doing? It is not very likely that other people will pay you to practice here so there must be a different route taken in order to hone your skills and become a successful copywriter. One way to do this is through affiliate programs.
The biggest problem here is going to arise if you do not have your own list to work with. Even then it will be tough trying to sell the same product to the same people when you do not know what is working and what is not. Therefore, testing must be done on select groups in order to figure out what works and what does not.
If a marketer is targeting an absolutely blind list, a conversion rate of anywhere from one-half of one percent to one and one-half percent are average. If you can mail out to blind lists through paid lists or other means and consistently get better results than this, make a careful note of what you are doing. Affiliate products usually cost nothing or very little to start with, therefore they can be your best friend when it comes to your copywriting skills.
Being able to constantly test new products, your list becomes less important for the sake of testing your marketing. Granted, working with a targeted market is much simpler, which is exactly why it is a good idea to practice on blind lists. If you can accomplish a two and one-half to three percent return consistently on a blind list, you are accomplishing something.
Further, working with blind lists will allow you to keep your targeted personal lists for your products that you wish to promote. Again, keep testing, keep practicing and keep taking notes. When you get good, not only will you see positive results but you will be eligible for some of the better paying jobs available online today.
